Cryotherapy and Sleep: How Cold Improves Recovery

If there is one thing I wish every client understood, it is that you do not get stronger or more rested during your workout. You get all of that while you sleep. So when people tell me they train hard but still wake up tired, sleep is the first place I look.
Here is the simple reason cold helps. Your body starts to fall asleep when your core temperature drops. After a quick whole-body session, your body sheds heat as you warm back up, which gently mimics that natural bedtime cool-down. The cold also helps calm a revved-up nervous system and ease soreness, so there is less keeping you awake in the first place.
A little timing tip
A session gives you a burst of alertness right after, so I do not recommend it minutes before bed. Late afternoon or early evening tends to be the sweet spot, leaving a few hours for that calm to settle in.
Most of my Renton clients who come two or three times a week tell me they fall asleep faster and wake up feeling more recovered within a week or two. It is not a cure for serious insomnia, and I will always tell you that. But as a simple recovery habit, it is one of the easiest wins I know.
